Assessing the Effect of Continuity Editing Techniques on Filmgoers’ Perceptions of Filmic Narratives

My Summer Scholars project is a psychological experiment that tests the perceptual effects of certain film editing techniques. I spent the summer preparing the project, and will collect data in the fall of 2017. Test subjects will be shown a video that I created, and their eye movements and brain activity will be measured. I will be looking for evidence that certain editing techniques create greater processing difficulty than others.
