Student Teaching Experience
Requires Director’s Approval
Prerequisites: Completion of 30 credits of coursework, Completion of an appropriate CST.
The professional semester is comprised of the student teaching experience and the corresponding seminar. It is considered the capstone course of the graduate education program. Student teaching is defined as a full day, full time, school-based experience that is supervised by both certified, experienced teachers and a college field supervisor. The experience is designed to reflect the reality of the classroom. The weekly seminar addresses issues relative to the INTASC Standards for Licensing Beginning Teachers. Therefore, pertinent issues and topics related to the expectations expressed in the Standards will form the basis for presentations, group discussions, group discussions and/or video analysis. Specific emphasis will be placed on reflective journal.

At the beginning of the student teaching or clinical practice courses, please complete the attached form below to confirm the name of your clinical supervisor, and submit the completed form to the clinical supervisor.
Before submitting an application for student teaching (EDUC 709) or the teaching seminar (EDUC 713), please review the attachment below. Once you are ready to apply, fill out the appropriate application form and select the appropriate evaluator as follows:

NCATE KEY PROGRAM ASSESSMENT # 5: INSTRUCTIONAL UNIT IMPLEMENTATION AND REFLECTION REPORT
Summary:
The Instructional Unit Implementation and Reflection Report addresses NCATE Key Program Assessment #5 and NAEYC Standards 1c, 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 4c, 4d, 5b, 5c, 7a, 7b and ACEI Standards 1.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 4.0, 5.1. The assignment assesses student learning before and after implementing a purposefully designed standards-based unit. The candidate then reflects on the experience.

The Composite Plan and Reflection Report addresses CAEP Key Program Assessment #5 and NYECS Standards 1c, 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 5b, 5c, , ACEI Standard 1.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 4.0, 5.1, and inTASC Standards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10.
The Attachment Section below contains two document, the Composite Plan and Reflection Report, which contains the a full description of the assignment, and the Observation Memos and Lesson Plan Template, which contains the form to be filled out and submitted for this assignment.
