Working with Parents and Families of Children, in Early Childhood and Childhood
This course examines how working with parents/caregivers helps teachers to develop a better understanding of their students, and ways to develop appropriate strategies for successful collaborations with parents in schools and communities. Includes analyses of parenting styles, family structures and dynamics, techniques for improving communication between parents/caregivers, teachers, and children, as well as strategies for using community-based resources to support families and children.
Ten hours of fieldwork required. 3 credits.
NCATE KEY PROGRAM ASSESSMENT # 6: FAMILY & COMMUNITY ACTION PLAN
Summary:
The Family and Community Action Plan addresses NCATE Key Program Assessment #6 and NAEYC Standards 2a, 2b, 2c, 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d, 6e and ACEI Standards 5.1, 5.2. This assessment is optional. It should be taken prior to program completion. Candidates will describe their personal action plan for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with families, school colleagues, and community agencies.

You are responsible for documenting your fieldwork. Use the following instructions to submit the form via the ePortfolio.
1. At the lower right, click on Complete Form.
2. Complete all required fields. Note: If you do not have all of the required information, you can Save and Return to finish the Form at a later date; however, do not click Submit Work until the Form is completed in its entirety.
3. Once entirely complete click Save and Return.
4. Click on the Scores/Results tab, scroll down to find the completed Form, then click on Submit Work. Follow any subsequent instructions.
