"The library learning commons is the best part of Mercy College.  A student can eat, study, socialize with friends and find a tutor all in the same place."

Forward Building Goals of the Mercy Library Learning Commons

The Title V mandate given Mercy is to create a Library Learning Commons in the Dobbs Ferry Campus that will promote student success by enabling students to study with one another in an active learning environment that provides the technology, information resources, services and peer-to-peer engagement that stimulates intellectual growth.  The objectives within this goal are as follows:

Objective 1.  Establish a Learning Commons with the Library at the Dobbs Ferry Campus.

Objective2.  Equip and furnish the Learning Commons to promote interactive learning for students and promote an active learning environment.

Objective 3.  Provide a comprehensive series of activities within the Learning Commons to promote active learning.

We are currently in the Objective 3 phase of the Learning Commons and are continuing our efforts to provide an orientation for students each year that introduces them to the services and functional learning spaces of the library.

In addition, the Learning Commons offers workshops, activities, art shows and author reading events that both provide practical guidance and intellectual engagement by students.  These activities benefit students regardless of cultural, linguistic or economic background and encourage students' utilization of Learning Commons resources.  Our focus is on improving collaborative learning experiences and technological proficiency for diverse learners and at-risk students.

Learning Commons satisfaction surveys enable ongoing improvement of the full array of services provided.  The Mercy College Learning commons continues to serve as a change agent in the development, use and assessment of new learning environments, tools, strategies and curricular and pedagogical approaches to enhance the quality of learning on campus.
