UNIT I: Students will work on further developing the use of description and narration, with an emphasis on tone, diction sensory detail and dialogue. To that end, students will study chapter 2 in the text book and will write a short-short story.
UNIT II: Students will continue to refine their craft, including the writing of poetry. The major emphasis of this unit is poetry. Specific directions for activities will be given in class.
Materials necessary include:
-CREATIVE WRITING: 4 GENRES IN BRIEF
-a fully-charged Chrome Book
-online access to stories which need to be printed and brought to class)
-POST-ITs
- a flash drive
-a stenographer's note pad
-a section in a 3-ring binder
-access to books of poetry (online is acceptable)
- profile on turnitin.com.
Each of the following documents is designed to assist you as you create an example of your best writing. While most are self-explanatory, they don't answer every question you may have. With that in mind, please feel free to come in for extra help or to ask peers for editing.
The portfolio is a collection of your work this semester as well as reflection and revision of papers which didn't meet your expectation. SInce the portfolio comprises the main portion of your final exam grade, take time to read the requirements, as well as to select assignments to revise.
Feel free to come in for extra help or just to chat about your ideas.
Read chapter 2 in the CREATIVE WRITING text, analyze for meaning and devices, and be able to locate examples of specific, chapter terms used in each story. Also, you will have the opportunity to select other examples not assigned to use as reference in writing the short-short story. Required reading includes the following:
"The Baby"
"Crossing the River Zbrucz"
The same hold true for the second unit of spring semester: writing poetry. Refer to chapter 1.
