CONFERENCE LOCATION

The conference will be held on the campus of Catholic University of Eastern Africa located in the Karen Langata District of Nairobi, a suburban area approximately eight miles from the city center. Our sessions will be in the new Learning Resource Center at CUEA.

TRANSPORTATION

Lindberg Holidays & Safaris

As a sponsor of the conference Lindberg will provide complimentary airport pickup for speakers, panelists and guests flying into Nairobi.

Lindberg offers many services ranging from airport pickup and local tours/transportation to memorable safaris tailored to individual and group interests. Lindberg has always had a special focus on educational and mission groups coming to Kenya from the United States.

Lindberg Holidays was founded in 1996 by Charles Mwiti, a Kenyan entrepreneur who grew up in a village on the slopes of Mt. Kenya. He remembers waving at tourists in vans as they passed by traveling to the nearby national parks. His dream was to work in the thriving tourist industry. Professionalism, hospitality and flexibility are evident in all aspects of his company’s interaction with clients. Lindberg Holidays & Safaris has been serving educational groups from Chicago for more than 10 years.

LODGING

Participants are responsible for their own lodging. We have reserved blocks of self-contained rooms at Bakanja and St. Bakita hostels on or near the campus of Catholic University of Eastern Africa. We also have reserved standard rooms for students at Bakanja. Lindberg Safaris will provide complimentary airport pickup and transport to lodgings at CUEA.

FOOD

Some meals will be served at the conference and are included in the registration fee.  Most lodging facilities serve a light breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening.  Across from the main campus there is a canteen that has some basic food at a good price. This area of Nairobi also has both casual and fancy restaurants.

NECESSITIES AND MORE

There is a large Nakumatt retail shopping center near the CUEA campus.  Nakumatt is the equivalent of Wal-Mart and has everything from food, health and beauty supplies to clothing and small appliances.

COME EARLY TO KENYA!

During the week prior to the conference (June 10-17), Project HARAMBEE has arranged visits to sites listed below.  Some are important and lovely local attractions you won't want to miss.  Some are service organizations providing care to Kenyans in need, some are grass roots economic ventures, others are educational.  All will be relevant to presentations during the conference and will prepare you to fully reap benefits of the conference.

We will travel in a group via 8-passenger van.  Each day's trip is $65, which includes lunch and gratuities.  In some cases, we will visit two sites in one day.  One trip will have us overnight in Naivasha, and hotel fee is extra (approx. $35) (Note:  there is an additonal nominal entry fee for the Karen Blixen Home.)  For further information, contact Keen Harrison, harambee.work@sbcglobal.net
