Ever since the beginning of this class, I have been obsessed with finding lessons or activities that show the value of numbers. The following link takes you to a great lesson that really emphasizes the number values. The main idea of this lesson is to teach children what place value is and what regrouping really means. I really liked this lesson because it allows the student to see (and practice) that 259 is really 200+50+9. It’s a really simple little lesson that allows the teacher to evaluate whether or not the children comprehend the concept. Since it is a sort of little game, the children enjoy it and because it is very repetitive it gives the children a lot of practice so that they become very familiar with the true meaning of “carrying a one.”
