Since the focus of this field trip information is about History and Social Studies, I have copied the objectives and standards directly off of the Legoland web site. I have placed the link to one of the Teacher Resource Guides at the bottom of this page. This guide lists all of the options available and then you may choose the additional link that you are interested in. These standards came from the "Building America" option.

Educational Objectives

• Learn about national landmarks, monuments, and symbols.

• Compare regions of California and how land is used in urban and

rural settings.

• Learn how people and culture influenced development in several

cities across the United States.

California Content Standards:

History/Social Science

Kindergarten

K.4 Students compare and contrast the locations of people, places, and

environments and describe

their characteristics.

K.6 Students understand that history relates to events, people, and places of other times.

Grade One

1.2 Students compare and contract the absolute and relative locations of places and people and describe the

physical and/or human characteristics of places.

2. Compare the information that can be derived from a three dimensional model to the information that

can be derived from a picture of the same location.

4. Describe how location, weather, and physical environment affect the way people live, including the

effects on their food clothing, shelter, transportation, and recreation.

1.3 Students know and understand the symbols, icons, and traditions of the United States that provide

continuity and a sense of community across time.

3. Identify American symbols, landmarks, and essential documents, such as the…Stature of Liberty…

and know the people and events associated with them.

1.5 Students describe the human characteristics of familiar places and the varied backgrounds of American

citizens and residents in those places.

2. Understand the ways in which…immigrants have helped define Californian and American culture.

Grade Two

2.2.4 Compare and contrast basic land use in urban, suburban, and rural environments in California.

2.5 Students understand the importance of individual action and character and explain how heroes from

long ago and the recent past have made a difference in others’ lives (e.g.,…Abraham Lincoln…)

Grade Three

3.1.1 Students identify geographical features in their local region.

3.1.2 Students trace ways people have used the resources of the local region and modified the physical

environment.

3.4.3 Know the histories of important local and national landmarks, symbols, and essential documents that

create a sense of community among citizens and exemplify cherished ideals ( e.g.,…Statue of Liberty,

U.S. Capitol)

Grade Four

4.1 Students demonstrate an understanding of the physical and human geographic features that define

places and regions in California.

3….describe the various regions of California, including how their characteristics and physical

environment (e.g., water, landforms, vegetation, climate) affect human activity.

4.1.5 ….describe how communities in California vary in land use, vegetation,…population

density, architecture, services, and transportation.
