Endangered Animals PowerPoint

Content:

This Endangered PowerPoint lesson was created in the Spring of 2008, under the advisement of my cooperating teacher, Jeanie Ward.

Impact:

To assess a student on what they have learned throughout an unit on Endangered Animals, I have assigned the students to create a PowerPoint about an endangered animal. This projects helps students become familiar with a PowerPoint program. This project also helps students to meet the following NC Standard Course of Study Goals and Objectives:

Social Studies

Competency Goal 5: The learner will understand the relationship between people and geography in various communities.

Objective 5.06 - Identify and describe the people, vegetation, and animal life specific to certain regions and describe their interdependence.

Computer/Technology Skills

Competency Goal 1: The learner will understand important issues of a technology-based society and will exhibit ethical behavior in the use of computer and other technologies.

Objective 1.10 - Identify and use multimedia terms/concepts.

Competency Goal 2: The learner will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the use of computer and other technologies.

Objective 2.09 - Identify and use multimedia tools to combine text and graphics as a class/group assignment.

Objective 2.10 - Identify, discuss, and cite resources for a class/group multimedia project.

Alignment:

This Endangered Animals PowerPoint helped me to meet the following NETS-T Technology Standards for Elementary Teachers:

Standard III. A: Facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.

-- In the impact section of this document, one will find the NC Competency Goals and Objectives that were met throughout this class project. Some standards derive from the Social Studies strand, while others meet Computer/Techonology Skills standards.

Standard III. C: Apply technology to develop student's higher order skills and creativity.

-- This artifact proves that I have used technology to develop student's higher order thinking skills and creativity. The students will create a pursuasive powerpoint using critical thinking and creativity. Although there are guidelines as to what their powerpoint should include, they still have the opportunity to use their own creativty. They are able to choose their endangered animal. They also have free range to explore the different ways to present their powerpoint whether it is by changing the font, adding graphics, sounds, or animation.

Standard III. D: Manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.

-- This artifact proves that I can manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment. The PowerPoint attached was used as a guideline for students to follow. This PowerPoint corresponds with the rubric that I used to grade the powerpoint. This shows how I am managing my student's use of technology.
