Context:
This assignment was completed for my GS 4401 class under the instruction of Dr. Jeff Goodman in the fall of 2007. The technology used for this assignment was Microsoft Word for typing the survey and the internet to find other science safety surveys.
Impact:
Completing this survey was important because it gave insight as to where important items for science safety and beyond could be found in the classroom. It was beneficial because it made the teacher and students aware of important objects and information could be found in case of an emergency.
Alignment:
I met Standard 17 indicator 1 by acknowledging safety rules and precautions around the classroom by implementing them into my lessons.
I met Standard 17 indicator 2 by investigating materials/chemicals to make sure they are up to day and follow directions as indicated on the materials/chemicals before I use them in my lessons.
I met Standard 17 indicator 3 by understanding the importance of the safety of my students when using materials during my lessons. By having this knowledge I am able to avoid any harmful situations that may occur.
I met Standard 17 indicator 4 by expressing to my students the importance of following safety rules during experiments and indicating where materials can be found in case a harmful situation dies arise. I model this by knowing before and after procedures and having posters/illustrations to describe safety precautions.
I met Standard 17 indicator 5 by planning for specific situations to ensure the safety of the students and the school. I also keep up to date research and data to continue towards becoming a safer teacher and in turn working in a safer school.
