Math ActivityWS.jpg

This activity is geared towards 1st graders because it requires simple addition, but in equation form.  There are various versions of how to do this game, but this is how I taught it to my math class.

Addition and Subtraction in Action

Objective:  To practice solving addition and subtraction problems.

Directions:  The child rolls the red, black, and yellow inflatable dice, in that order.  This forms an equation with 2 numbers and either an addition or subtraction sign.  After solving the equation the dice formed, the child draws a TRICK card.  They must perform the action that is on the card the number of times that is equal to their answer.  Then the next child takes a turn.

Supplement Materials:  I gave a copy of the two handouts attached below to assist the students in finding the answers.  It also helps those children not as fast as the rest of the class to keep up.

(This game is created by Crayola Rocket Minds.  See crayola.com/rocketminds for more information about the game and its different versions.)
