Philosophy of Teaching

Kids (Lg.)
As a teacher I feel that it is important to understand yourself before trying to understand others.  My educational philosophy is forever changing with each new step I take in my journey as an educator.  As a teacher, it is not only important that my students are learners, but that I learn too!  There is nothing worse than a teacher who stops learning.  I need to continue educating myself and growing from my experience.  I have developed and refined my strengths, but acknowledge that I also have weaknesses and continually work on them.
As a teacher I am concerned with efficiency and effectiveness in the classroom.  I also have, but am not limited to a hands-on approach.  I am willing to find ways to meet all types of learners within the class.  It is important for students to understand that knowledge is necessary for the real world.  Literacy is a vital part of every students life to allow them to succeed in the world.  Therefore, I strive to help every student to be the best they can.  Reading and writing skills, as well as communication are key to the success of literacy.
Students must think for themselves and be able to problem solve.  They have to establish their own place in the world with the love and guidance of people who care about them.  I feel like I need to get to know all of my students to ensure I teach them in the best way possible.  My goal is to touch the life of every student in a positive manner and show them that while learning, they can also enjoy themselves.  I want to inspire children and feel pride in seeing them succeed and know that I play a part in their success.  That is the true nature of teaching, to inspire and be inspired in return.
