This activity was done in my RE 3030 class. It involves the Early Reading Assessment.
Rationale for Spelling and Reading Assessment:
Context-
I did the Early Reading Assessment as part of my field experience assignment while in Block I at Hillcrest Elementary. I chose one student from the class to conduct my assignment on.
Impact-
While learning about ways to teach reading and developing the levels students are on with their word recognition, I used this assessment as a tool to determine the level at which students were at. After learning to do so, and practicing this in the classroom, I can later use it to help me determine the levels that the students are at in my classes.
Alignment-
I have met Standard 1, indicators 1, 5, 6, and 8 because I have shown in this process that I have a broad knowledge and understanding of major Literacy concepts. In doing this, I realize that language is developmental, and on-going. I have also met Standard 7, indicators 6 and 7 because I use appropriate strategies to deliver instruction in literacy by assessing individuals and whole class.
