College and Career Readiness Standards

The goal for America’s educational system is clear: Every student should graduate from high school ready for college or a career. Every student should have meaningful opportunities to choose from upon graduation from high school. Unfortunately, four out of every 10 new college students, including half of those at two-year institutions, take remedial courses, and many employers comment on the inadequate preparation of high school graduates. Texas needs her graduates to be prepared for life after high school, and College and Career Readiness Standards have been imbedded in the TEKS in hopes of bridging this gap.

"If teachers teach the new TEKS with fidelity, they will be teaching to the College and Career Readiness Standards." Kim Callison, English Language Arts Curriculum Coordinator
