News Letter

NC- North Carolina DPI Elementary Education Specialty Area Standards
Standard: Standard 16: Elementary teachers develop as leaders in their schools and communities by staying informed about educational policy issues and supporting professional development. Elementary teachers participate in co-curricular activities, provide leadership in student and curriculum involvement, and connect these activities to the development of citizenship ideals in their students.
Indicator: Indicator 3: Teachers communicate with parents, guardians, and caretakers to build partnerships between home and school.

Rationale for News Letter

Context:

Using Microsoft Publisher, I created a 1-page newsletter to send home with the students in my block internship at Mountain View Elementary School. I took a digital camera photo of myself and used a scanner to insert a childhood photo of myself. Within the newsletter I included clip art, the dates of my internship, and information about myself.

Impact:

When I teach I can use Microsoft Publisher to send out newsletters and brochures to inform students and parents of current events pertaining to the class. I can also use Microsoft Publisher to create awards for the students. Students will be taught to create newsletters and brochures, etc.. for various projects within the class.

Alignment:

I have met NCDPI standard for elementary educators # 16 Indicator 3 because this newsletter allows me to communicate with parents using technology.
