I conducted three observations and a student interview as well as a teacher interview in a second grade class at Witnel Elementary School. The observations were of the same child in three different settings over several visits to the school. The interviews were composed of several questions provided as an example and some of my own. The questions involved different aspects of diversity and how it impacted the school and students.
The interviews and observations I did may have made the instructor and students more aware of the diverse atmosphere present in their classroom.
NCDPI Standard 14: Elementary teachers develop strategies to address topics that are controversial to diverse groups.
Indicator 6: I met this indicator by interviewing an experienced teacher on the methods she uses in addressing her diverse students and their different needs. I also interviewed a diverse student to better be able to address needs of students like him.
