Rationale for CI 3000 assignments
Context
In my CI 3000 class during Block I, my classmates and I completed assignments that included a culture report paper, spiritual beliefs paper, student interview, teacher interview, and final synthesis. I worked with Allison Chrisawn and Meredith MacDonald to complete some of these assignments.
I was able to create these projects through the use of Microsoft Word.
Impact
When teaching, I can use these projects to broaden my understanding of diversity in my classrooms. By looking over what I have learned about specific cultures, I can be more prepared to teach and learn from them.
My goal is to be appreciative and knowledgeable of all cultures, and to pursue higher learning opportunities.
Alignment
I have met North Carolina DPI Elementary Education Standards.
I have met DPI standard 7, indicator 3 because I observed a student at Chesterfield Elementary School. I focused on the child's prior knowledge, misconceptions, and interests so I would learn how to design lessons.
I have met DPI standard 7, indicator 6 because I interviewed a student and a teacher at Chesterfield Elementary School. This allowed me to learn about modifying instruction and assessments to meet the needs of individual students.
I have met DPI standard 14, indicator 1 because I have written a cultural report and a spiritual beliefs paper. This shows that I have an understanding and a respect for families and communities, and their diverse attitudes about education.
I have met DPI standard 14, indicator 4 because I have written a cultural report and a spiritual beliefs paper. This shows that I have explored multiple viewpoints and values by recognizing the family roles in educating children of diversity, through research of Hispanic culture and Catholicism.
I have met DPI standard 14, indicator 5 because I have written a cultural report and a spiritual beliefs paper. I have explored common stereotypes and prejudices that affect students. I have shown that I will support a school environment that is bias free.
