I teach 7th grade English and AVID at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School, part of San Francisco Unified School District. I have a B.A. in political science from Stanford University, a Masters in Library Science from San Jose State University, and a multiple subject teaching credential from San Francisco State University. I have a single subject credential in English. I earned my National Board Certification last year. I am also an intern and BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment) coach. I was a librarian for 14 years before moving into the classroom, and worked closely with teachers to integrate technology and research into their curriculum. I have written many articles about young adult literature, urban lit, and using technology to promote literacy. I frequently speak and library conferences, and have written a book -- "101+ Great Ideas for Teen Library Web Sites" -- that was published by Neal Schuman. My other interests include social justice, culturally relevant pedagogy, and bridging the digital divide. I love to travel and have most recently been to Mexico, Borneo, Indonesia, and Honduras. I live in San Francisco with my husband Mark.
