Discovery Question:  What constitutes "engaged learning" in classrooms?  As a former K – 12 student what worked with technology integration and what DID NOT? 

 

Agenda:

 

  • Constructivist and inquiry-based learning
  • Introduction to Webquests
  • Taskstream Webquest template
  • In class: Create social justice lesson plan that integrates technology – transform into Webquest using Taskstream template

 

1. Choose Social Justice Webquest topic and begin construction of Webquest using Taskstream template. This may be done in a group of up to 4.

Requirements:

1. Involves critical thinking (not rote tasks)

2. Asks students to perform a real-world task

3. Includes a rubric for evaluating your students' work

ASSIGNMENT:

Reflect on the Webquest you are designing.

  • Why did you select this topic?
  • What kind of support, skills, and knowledge will you need to feel comfortable assigning this lesson to your students?
  • How is the use of technology effective at teaching the lesson’s objectives?
  • How will this lesson influence your students’ knowledge of the subject matter?

Write a one-page, double spaced reflection addressing the questions above. Post it to Taskstream and email it to Miranda. DUE: Reflection on Webquest, on Taskstream and emailed to instructor by September 28.

 

 

  1. Revise your technology lesson plan from the first week of class, and be sure to include adaptations for English Learners and Special Education students. Post to Taskstream and email to Miranda.DUE: September 29 (Final draft).

3. Discussion: When is each model appropriate to use? Why do you think students at low-SES schools tend to get more instruction using the first two? Why is this an equity issue?

5. Form your groups or work alone to decide on topic (you can change your mind) -- 15 minutes

6. In groups of 4, do Webquest about Webquests

30-40 min. total

Report to whole class -- 3 minutes per group -- 10 minutes total
