ICTS 9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice

Standard 9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice. The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

Performance

ICTS 9.P(h):

The teacher engages in ongoing learning opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in order to provide all learners with engaging curriculum and learning experiences based on local and state standards.

ICTS 9.P(i):

The teacher engages in meaningful and appropriate professional learning experiences aligned with his/her own needs and the needs of the learners, school, and system.

ICTS 9.P(j):

Independently and in collaboration with colleagues, the teacher uses a variety of data (e.g., systematic observation, information about learners, research) to evaluate the outcomes of teaching and learning and to adapt planning and practice.

ICTS 9.P(k):

The teacher actively seeks professional, community, and technological resources, within and outside the school, as supports for analysis, reflection, and problem-solving.

ICTS 9.P(l):

The teacher identifies and reflects on his/her own beliefs and biases and utilizes resources to broaden and deepen his/her own understanding of cultural, ethnic, gender, and learning differences to develop reciprocal relationships and create more relevant learning experiences.

ICTS 9.P(m):

The teacher advocates, models, and teaches safe, legal, and ethical use of information and technology including appropriate documentation of sources and respect for others in the use of social media.

ICTS 9.P(o):

The teacher engages in respectful inquiry of diverse historical contexts and ways of knowing, and leverages that knowledge to cultivate culturally responsive relationships with learners, families, other professionals, and the community.



INSTRUCTIONS

1. Provide links, attachments, etc., to artifacts that support your competency across the eight performance indicators of this standard.

2. Provide a self-analysis as to why you feel you have earned a "Proficient," "Basic," or "Unsatisfactory" score in the performance indicators of this Standard.

Required artifacts:

  • Unit plan (focused on reflection section)
  • Technology integration lesson plan (including reflection section)
  • Reflection on faculty meeting
  • Reflection on professional learning opportunity (PD/PLC/etc)
  • Evidence of analyzing student data
  • Evidence of instructional record-keeping
  • Evidence of non-instructional record-keeping
  • Evidence of incorporating student cultures
  • Reflection on parent/teacher conferences or parent meeting

​ Note: Between the required and optional self-chosen artifacts submitted, candidates should address all the performance indicators of this standard. The lesson plan(s) submitted for this standard may also be utilized as evidence for other standards, as different elements of the plans address different standards.
