Five 'E' Science Lesson Plan

Rationale

Context:  This lesson plan was created during the Fall semester, 2005, in my science methods course.  It was created using a FOSS science kit, as well as some original ideas from myself and a cooperating peer.  The lesson was then taught to a group of my peers and evaluated by my professor.

Impact:  I would use this lesson, or a slight modification of it, to teach a science lesson on solids, pertaining to bits and pieces, to first, second or even third graders.  This lesson would focus students on an inquiry lesson, guided by exploration and discovery.

Alignment:

  • NCDPI Standard 3, Indicator 2:  I have proved competency of this standard by showing my basic knowledge of physical science concepts in relation to measurement, analysis and interpretation of data; structure and properties of matter; and the use of various techniques to problem solve.
  • NCDPI Standard 10:  I have provided an activity that allows for inquiry experiences in the teaching of science by using various questioning skills and helping to develop science processing skills, such as classifying, measuring, inferring, interpreting, and analyzing.
