After France declared war on Britain, they began sending money, equipment, and troops to aid the American Patriots. Furthermore, a Frenchman named, Marquis de Lafayette sailed over to America since he was inspired by the American cause. Lafayette became a trusted aide to Washington and fought for the American cause. There were others who volunteered to help the Americans as well. For example, Friedrich von Steuben, who was from Germany, came and taught the American army some military tactics, while Juan de Miralles, a representative of Spain, helped gain financial aid for the Patriots. With the additional assistance from other countries, it seemed as if their position to win was getting stronger.
