The Hayfield Secondary School Education for Employment program empowers individuals and families across the life span to balance the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society. Our unique focus is on balancing families, work, personal time, and interrelationships.
The mission of Education for Employment is to prepare students for work life, independent living, family life, and post-secondary education/training in pursuit of a career path. This mission of preparing students for the "real world" exemplifies successful life management, employability, and career development. Opportunities must be provided for young people to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors needed for:
· Balancing personal, home, family and work lives.
· Developing greater understanding and harmony between youth and adults through the improvement of interpersonal communication skills.
· Becoming responsible citizens and leaders through cooperative action in our family, work, and community settings.
· Using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address problems in our diverse family, work, communities, and global society.
· Functioning effectively as providers and consumers of goods and services in our economy.
· Appreciating human worth and assuming responsibility for one’s actions and decisions in life.
The EFE vision and mission statements mirror the Virginia Board of Education and Fairfax County Public Schools Vision and Mission Statement. On the local level, the vision of the Fairfax County Public School is "to provide a gifted quality education to every child in an instructional setting appropriate for his or her need." The vision is supported by a mission "to educate all students to meet high academic standards." Education for Employment provides the academic rigor, technical skill development, and workplace readiness skills to provide a quality education for every student based on his/her need.
At the state level, the Virginia Board of Education Mission statement is as follows: "The mission of the Virginia's public education system, first and foremost, is to educate students in the fundamental knowledge and academic subjects that students need to become capable, responsible and self-reliant citizens." Reviewing the Education for Employment vision and mission statements above, one can see the correlation necessary to develop responsible citizens and leaders through balancing life management, employability, and career development skills at home, work, in communities, and the global society.
