Colorado Department of Education
Teacher Recruitment Division
To Whom it May Concern,
I am writing to recommend Katrena Gunn for a teaching position in the State of Colorado. I had the pleasure of working directly with Katrena during her Student Teaching Semester in the Spring of 2016. Her ability to relate to students and plan curriculum that would incorporate relevant real-world connections never ceased to amaze me. I was Katrena’s Mentor Teacher at Aiea Elementary School, where we worked closely to plan curriculum, so I fully understand her capabilities.
Katrena’s incredible ability to build rapport with the 6th graders in my classroom is truly the mark of a great educator; knowing your students and the ways in which they learn best. She took the time to learn about their interests and ability levels, which helped her prepare for more well-rounded lessons that could reach all learners. She was successful in planning and executing highly engaging lessons in which she incorporated real-world and cross-curricular connections for students and often used hands-on learning to solidify concepts. Her uncanny ability to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the students kept the flow of the lesson as she modified as needed. Katrena’s commitment to promote continuous learning amongst the students was highly evident as she would work with small groups to conduct follow up activities to further extend learning. Professionally, she constantly reflected on her teaching and always looked for ways to improve.
Katrena was also able to work effectively with other teachers on the grade level, and was comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas, making her a great addition to our team. Working collaboratively with everyone on the grade level through the Data Teams Process as well as the school staff, helped build and strengthen her repertoire of teaching and communication skills.
With her passion for learning, building rapport with her students, adaptability, cooperative and collaborative nature, professionalism, and reflective practice, Katrena would make an excellent addition to Colorado’s Department of Education. I have no doubts that you will be pleased if you hire her. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via the above address.
Sincerely,
Christin Lovell
