Philosophy of Teaching

Kids (Lg.)

I strongly believe teachers should facilitate students learning and allow the students to explore concepts on their own.  By doing so, the students have ownership of what they learn and obtain a better understanding of the concepts.  I also believe teachers should embrace students’ differences and use those differences to enhance the classroom using a variety of teaching strategies.  Students should also be taught real world applications.  Through real word applications, students can see how knowledge applies to every day life.  Often when students can relate a topic to real life situations, they gain a better understanding of the information. 

Professional Goals

Graduate (Lg.) I will graduate from Appalachian State University in December of 2006  with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in mathematics.  I hope to obtain a teaching job in a North Carolina public school.  In the future, I would like to receive my masters and national board certification.  I have attached a document which addresses goals for myself as an educator.
