Rationale for Newsletter

Context

Using Microsoft Publisher, I created a 1-page newsletter to send home with the students in my block internship at Mountain View Elementary School.  I used a digital camera to take a professional photo of myself and inserted the picture into the newsletter.  I also inserted a childhood picture of myself using a scanner and Adobe Photoshop.  Within the newsletter, I included the dates I would be attending the school for my internship, along with information about myself.  I sent the newsletter home with the students in my classroom.

Impact

When I teach, I can use Microsoft Publisher to make newsletters to send home with my students to inform parents of what we are doing in the classroom.  I can also use Microsoft Publisher to make brochures, web sites, and awards for my classroom.  Microsoft Publisher is a very easy program to use and also looks very professional.

Alignment

I have met competency VC because creating newsletters on a computer is much more efficient than using paper and pencil.  I can reuse this newsletter from year to year and change it as I need to.

I have met NETS-T competency VD and NCDPI standard for elementary educators #16, indicator 3 because this newsletter allows me to communicate with parents using technology.
