Rationale for Newsletter to Kindergarten Class

Context

Using Microsoft Publisher, I made a newsletter that introduced me to the parents of my Kindergarten class and informed them of my role in the class during my internship.  I used a digital camera to obtain a recent photo of myself and I inserted it into the letter.  I also scanned a younger picture of me and inserted it into the letter.  In the newsletter I included biographical information, dates of when I'll be in the classroom, and contact information.

Impact

When I become a teacher, I can use Microsoft Publisher or a similar program to send out a newsletter at the beginning of the school year to give information about myself and my classroom procedures.  Contacting my students and families when school starts will hopefully help my classroom run efficiently.  I can also continue to send out newsletters throughout the year to keep open communication between myself and parents.

Alignment

I have met NETS-T Competency VC because I have used technology to create a newsletter that I can use from year to year and change as needed.  This method is much more productive than using pen and paper, and it allows me to include clip art and photographs.

I have met NETS-T Competency VD in that I have created a newsletter to communicate to my students and their families during my internship.  I can also use Microsoft Publisher to send correspondences to organizations such as the PTO and other community groups.

I have met NCDPI Standard 16, Indicator 3 because I have created a newsletter for the parents and students of my Kindergarten class.
