Rationale: Planning, Teaching, Reflecting, Math Lesson
Content
Under the advisement of my cooperating teacher during my internship at Green Valley Elementary School, I created three corresponding lessons help students develop an understanding of number sense. The three lessons were on the numbers thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen. During these lessons the students practiced counting up to each of these numbers, and then they used bingo markers to show the amount of each number, and they practiced writing the numerical number and the number in standard form.
Impact
This lesson helps me, as a future teacher, understand what components go into teaching a mathematics lesson. Often times teachers find it hard to break down their current knowledge to the knowledge level of the students and in that case this lesson serves as a reminder how important it is to teach number sense.
Alignment
I have met NC Standard 2-Indicator 1 by writing out a lesson that will help students become more aware and broaden their knowledge of number sense; which will eventually lead to numeration and numerical operation.
