Rationale: Microsoft Works Database/Microsoft Word Class Project

Context

This artifact is a project that I created for my future elementary classroom that integrates a database made with Microsoft Works and a brochure made with Microsoft Publisher.  The project I designed is titled “African Safari”.  In the project, I instruct my students to use library materials and suggested websites to research three African animals.  With their research they will construct a database and then pick one animal to make a brochure on so they can use to teach their peers.  With this project I have created a title page that includes a description of the project, a student handout that includes instructions, and an example of a database with three records already filled out.

Impact

Now I have a project integrating technology that I can use in my future classroom to teach the subject area of science.  I can also use databases to organize information about my class such as students’ names, addresses, phone numbers, etc.

Alignment

I have met NETS Competency IVA because I have used databases and a desktop publishing program to assess my students to see if they understand how to use research to learn about African animals.
