Rationale for Artifact Ten: Creation of Technology Portfolio and FDN 3100 Class
Context
In the fall of 2004 I took the course FDN 3100, Classroom Use of Microcomputers, taught by Mary Ferrell. In this course I learned how to use different programs and tools on a computer. I also put together a portfolio showing artifacts and skills that I developed throughout this course. The portfolio is divided into six sections: All Rationales and Artifacts to Meet the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers, Basic Technology/ Word Processing/ Desktop Publishing, Telecommunications/ Ethics/ Equity/ Legalities, Software Evaluation/ Multimedia/ Databases, Spreadsheets, and Further Technology Work. The portfolio was made to meet the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T).
Impact
When I teach I will be responsible for taking my students to the computer lab and incorporating technology into my lesson plans. I think it is very important to teach students how to use technology so that it can help them in their daily tasks and I took this course so that I will be able to teach them that effectively. I will also be able to use the technology portfolio that I created to illustrate my skills and knowledge of computers to future employers.
Alignment
I have met NETS-T Competency IA because I now possess both introductory and some advanced skills in technology through the course of the class and by creating a technology portfolio.
I have met NETS-T Competency IB because I have a great deal of my technology portfolio complete and I will continue to add to it throughout my undergraduate education and during my career as an elementary school teacher. I have a section entitled "Further Technology Work" whereby I can add technology projects that I create.
