Seeing as how this blog is meant to be used as a way to promote myself to potential employers, it made perfect sense to me to also include my past experiences in it. I learned at a young age that having no working experience makes it so much more difficult to acquire a job when competing with people who have prior knowledge and experience. Therefore, I think it is an important to be able to list past endeavors as well as being able to talk on how they have advanced you professionally.
Lifeguarding
Last summer I worked full time as a lifeguard for the company Continental Pools at the pool shown in the picture above. Lifeguarding taught me many obvious lifesaving techniques such as CPR and procedures that go along with saving someone's life, both in and out of the water, but it also helped me become more social. Being surrounded by familiar people day in and day out helps to create and improve socialization skills which is helpful in both our professional and day to day lives.
Sales Associated/Cashier
The other job I had last summer was a sales associate/cashier for American Eagle Clothing which I worked at part time. Working at a clothing store not only help me improved my salesmanship, but also greatly helped to improve my social skills as well. Because of the interaction I got with customers while working here, it is much easier than it was before for me to carry on a conversation with anyone, about anything.
