Artifact 78 -Verify that program exceeds one or more local benchmark standards
The Lee County Career & Technical Center Computer Information Systems Program has high standards for our students. We feel that students who excel in the classroom also excel in higher education and in the workplace.
Some local benchmark standards we set for the Computer Information Systems Program is as follows:
Artifact 79 - ranking of certifications for 2008-09 compared to other programs, division and state
Upon reviewing the certification data for the state I notice many varieties of Business Industry Certifications that are being offered and administered. In the Computer Information Systems Program at the Lee County Career & Technical Center we offer the Microsoft Application Specialists (MOS) in Word and PowerPoint to our students.
I notice a large number of studentsin the state take the National Retail Federation Customer Service test (NRF). This test has a very high passing rate of 85 %. We give this test at the Lee County Career & Technical Center but only to our Marketing Education Students.
The credentialing data chart shows an attempt of 1,625 students taking the MOS Word Exam with only a pass rate of 74.65%. As a state percentage I feel this is extremely low. In my program I average testing 60-80 students per school year with an average of 90% pass rate.
The attached credentialing data chart indicates that the State of Virginia offers a wide range of industry certification to our students. Students in all vocational and technical fields have a variety of opportunities to become industry certified before their graduation.
