NC- North Carolina DPI Elementary Education Specialty Area Standards

Detail: Utilize community resources
Detail: Give personal attention and encouragement to underrepresented groups of students
Detail: Use relevant and real-world applications that interest a diverse population
Detail: Encourage underrepresented groups to assume leadership roles.

Context:

I completed this project for my CI-3543 class in Block II. I first took a digital camera and took pictures of things that had to do with science. I uploaded the pictures onto a computer and inserted them into a powerpoint presentation.  I added sounds to the presentation that matched the picture. I also added questions to the picture to ask more about it. The pictures were compressed at the end to make sure they did not take up too much room on the computer. In the end, my final project is all about science around us and questions that nature can leave us.

Impact:

This powerpoint can be used in the classroom to introduce a topic such as light/electricity. I could pull up the picture of the light bulb and read the questions asked. The students can write down the questions and by the end of the unit, students should be able to answer some of the questions. It is a good visual for students to see and they see these objects are out in the real world which apply to them. My students will be able to see science outside the classroom and know that it is important to learn about it, so they can apply it outside of the classroom. It will also help their critical thinking skills.

Alignment:

I met Standard 15, Indicator 1, by going out into the community taking pictures, represented science in the real world, and every student would make a powerpoint. Those that did not know much about science would put questions in their powerpoint that they might not even know yet.
