Religion Project

Here is my project on Islam
NC- North Carolina DPI Elementary Education Specialty Area Standards
Standard: Standard 14: Elementary teachers develop strategies to address topics that are controversial to diverse groups.
Indicator: Indicator 5: Teachers discourage prejudice, derogatory comments and stereotypical perspectives by modeling and selecting bias free instructional materials.

Context:

I did this religion project on Islam, so others could learn about the religion and be more informed. This project was created at Appalachian State University under the advisement of Ann-Marie Clark, Block I instructor. I completed this project for CI-3000.

Impact:

This religion impacted me in a positive way. I did not know much at all about the Islam culture and through this project I understood a little more about their culture. This will help me explain to my students if the issue comes up or if I have a student that is Islam. Students needed to informed people are different, but all people should be treated the same way. This project helped me learn the correct information, so I do not stereotype Islamic culture or any other culture.

Alignment:

This aligns the following program standards:

  •  Standard 14,

Indicator 5: This worksheet states facts about the Islam religion and no opinions about the religion and its people. It is bias free and only says what we know about the religion. It does not put down the religion or promote it.
