Rationale for NETS-T for iMovie Activity

Content:

In my media and technology class during block II, my classmates and I created an iMovie. My group chose the book Alice the Fairy by David Shannon. We used digital video cameras to record a dramatized version of our book. We also used the iMac program to import and edit the iMovie and the audio recording equipment to add voiceovers and music. Then we burned the iMovie on a DVD and showed it to the class.

Impact:

When I teach I can use this activity to integrate technology and literature. The students can use digital video cameras to make their own iMovie. I can have them pick their own children’s literature or poem to dramatize, I can use my video as an example for the class, or I could video tape my students and show it to the parents.

Alignment:

I have met NETS-T IB  because I am using a very current program (iMovie) to create a state-of-the-art video production

I have met NETS-T II D  because the technology resource that I have learned to manage is digital cameras and video production equipment.  I learned how to use a digital video camera, tripod and learned ways to take care of your digital video camera tape.  When I teach I will be able to show your students this.

I met NETS-T VIB standard because iMovie is a very hands on method of teaching that appeals to diverse learners.  It uses a variety of senses (touch, sound, sight) and is very  interactive and engaging, thus keeping the attention of LD or ADHD children and all levels of learners.

DPI standard 6, indicator 1- I have met by doing a storyboard; the arts discipline I used is the visual arts (using iMovie) and theatre arts (We acted out the book, etc).

DPI standard 12 - I have met because I learned how to integrate technology (use of computers and iMovie) with the arts (graphic and visual arts of drama and video production).
