Standard 3.4 Active engagement in learning

The lesson I chose for Standard 3.4- Active engagement in learning was my Pendulum Peer Teaching lesson. This lesson involves the students working with a partner, to make a pendulum and test the variable of different string lengths. This lesson was actively engaging the students because each group of partners had their own pendulum to work with at their seats, while following instruction from myself and my peer teacher.

I was very pleased with how this lesson was conducted. We were able to instruct the students at the front of the class, and through step by step instruction the students were able to complete their tests. We decided to run our separate trials as a class, which worked out great. Each trial was 15 seconds long, and during each trial students were to count the number of swings their pendulum had. Since the trials required counting the classroom remained quiet during each trial. The trials were only 15 seconds long which is manageable for students of a young age to maintain self control. After each trial we asked for the partners results, allowing the students to talk. This lesson went very well and I am proud of the result.

You can find the attached lesson plan at the bottom of this page as a Word Document and a PDF file.
