Graphics Tools

Graphic tools are tools that affect the look of different things, by allowing teachers to add graphics, change colors/font, etc. This includes:

  • Draw/Paint Programs
  • Image Editing Tools
  • Charting/Graphing Tools
  • Clip Art, Photo, Animation, Sound, Video, and Font Collections

Draw/Paint Programs

Drawing and painting programs help students and teachers create their own graphics. One thing that I have observed a lot of students enjoy, particularly males, is drawing. This type of program could appeal to those students who enjoy drawing or painting the most if they can use it in a project. Some programs are designed for more amateur art, while others can allow students who are more skilled to create better graphics.

Image Editing Tools

Image editing tools allow teachers and students to edit pictures, to take out flaws or to sometimes add things in to make the picture funny. However, some image editing programs are too difficult for younger students, as it takes some amount of skill to understand and work most of these programs properly. Making sure the program is appropriate for your age group in the classroom is necessary if you want to use this kind of software.

Charting/Graphing Tools

For math teachers, charting and graphing tools may be a great fit to the classroom. These tools allow students to produce charts and graphs on the computer. However, teachers from other subjects may find these tools useful as well if giving students a project that requires them to do research and collect data. The data collected can be put into a chart or graph format.

Clip Art, Photo, Animation, Sound, Video, and Font Collections

All of these tools are great to make things like PowerPoints more interesting when doing a presentation. These tools can make the presentation more colorful, or create a powerful point if used. Students should be creative when using this stuff, but they should also keep in mind that everything should have a purpose in the presentation. Teachers can also use these tools to make their lessons more fun and interesting.
