Context:

I created this lesson to use with my unit on Dr. Seuss.  This lesson was a science lesson about solids and liquids.  The Oobleck lesson was created for Mrs. Ashlyn Edward's second grade class at R. Brown McAllister Elementary School. 

Impact:

This lesson met the following NC Standard Course of Study Objectives for second grade:

Science:

3.04 Show that solids, liquids and gases can be characterized by their properties.

3.05 Investigate and observe how mixtures can be made by combining solids, liquids or gases and how they can be separated again.

3.06 Observe that a new material is made by combining two or more materials with properties different from the original material.

I met the following NC Standards for Elementary Teachers:

Standard 3: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in science.

Indicator 2: Teachers have knowledge of basic physical science concepts including:

• Systems of measurements, analysis, and interpretation of data

I met this science indicator because I had to have a knowledge of the structure and properties of matter in order to create and teach the lesson on Oobleck, which is a mixture of solid and liquid material.
