Letter to Parents to Develop School Vision

December 3, 2012

Dear Parents and Families,

Since the founding of the school in 2004, Bronx Lab has sought to provide a rich and challenging experience for each and every student who has come through our door.  Our goal is summed up in our Mission Statement:

To prepare for college and life, Bronx Lab School students engage in meaningful and contextual academic work, participate in a nurturing community, explore their passions, and learn to value effort as a means to success.

As we approach the end of our first decade of educating New York City students, the leaders of our school community have outlined a new Vision for the next four years that seeks to push us even further in our efforts to fulfill our Mission.  Specifically, our new Vision focuses on two areas that we have identified as keys to our students achieving success beyond Bronx Lab.  These two areas of our New Vision aim to strengthen our school’s:

  • Culture and Climate—we seek to strengthen the ties to Bronx Lab among students, teachers, families, and community partners; and

  • Academic Achievement—we seek to better prepare each Bronx Lab student to meet the requirements for graduation and for the rigors of college.

The enclosed brochure gives more details of the new Bronx Lab Vision Statement.

Your child will be learning of the initiatives we will undertake over the next several years to fulfill this Vision in Advisory and in their College Awareness courses.

For parents and families, I will speak at the next Parent Association meeting, on December 16, 2012, at 6 pm, to discuss the new Vision Statement and explain how this will help our school build on our past achievements.

I look forward to working with you in preparing your child for a lifetime of success.

Sincerely,

Christopher Lagares

Principal
