Planning
The teacher plans instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.

Reflection

With the kind of classroom I like to run, it is a little bit difficult to plan extensively, considering the fact that I like my discussions to be organic and student centered.  I therefore had a hard time at first with planning my classes.  Fortunately, I think I improved immensely as the semester went on in terms of planning my lessons and having discussions in mind.  Still I would strive to keep the organic feel in terms of class discussions, but I had a better idea of where I intended to go and what I wanted the students to discuss.

I think planning is extremely important because a teacher should be sure that his or her activities and assessments actually align with what his or her objective is.  If a teacher's goal is memorization or comprehension or critical thinking or internalization, different activities and assessments go with each one of those goals, and not planning could possibly lead to an activity that is not actually working to accomplish the specific goal the teacher had in mind.  Planning allows the teacher to make sure that his or her activities and assessments actually align with the goals he or she has set forth for the lesson.

Evidence

Here again is an evaluation from my supervising professor in which she states that my lesson plans are very detailed and my objectives are clearly stated.  You may recall this artifact from standard 1.

I've also include a sample lesson plan.  The lesson plan below is actually the plan from the day my supervising professor came in to observe and wrote the evaluation that is also attached in the evidence for this standard.
