As suggested in the results, a high degree of contentment was rated between both the OTS Leads when determining if the group members felt satisfied during the group sessions in addition to similar responses reported from the group members themselves. The use of a small groups suggests that the activities helped to increase overall social participation during the group activities, allowed group members to feel supported by other group members and additionally from the OTS leads as consistently reported on the participant rating scales for all sessions, shown to rated a score of "very much" across the five sessions when asked if they felt the facilitators of the groups were building a positive rapport with the group.
This is further supported with the use of the Intentional Relationship Model by the OTS leads, which emphasis's the use of 6 modes of empathizing, advocating, collaborating, encouraging, problem solving and instructing. Each of these modes were used throughout the group sessions to help build and establish relationships with the group members. In addition, the OTS leads main focus was to:
1) Allow the group members to increase ability (cognitively, emotionally and physically) to interact with others and adapt to different environmental situations by the conclusion of Club Discovery
2) To allow group members independently demonstrate learned skills on how to use at home exercises in order to increase strength and flexibility and reduce the affects of fatigue for completion daily tasks.
These two areas were the primary focus of the group sessions to help increase social participation, educate group members how to use energy conservation throughout the day, promote healthier lifestyles, interact in the community in a group that is supportive and to demonstrate increase overall well being at the end of 5 group sessions. Evidence supports that use of social groups can increase coping skills, use of healthier lifestyles and exercise can help alleviate cancer related fatigue and through the use of these supports, an overall increase in well being and quality of life can be achieved. Often if is reported that quality of life for individuals affected by cancer decreased due to a lack of above mentioned supports and due lack of participation in everyday from fatigue associated with cancer.
Lastly, limitations include inconsistency with group members attendance, time to further measure groups response to group activities and carry over effects, drop out rate and addressing both genders to diversify responses to being afflicted with cancer.
