Classroom Webpage

EOG Review Group

Context:

The teacher classroom webpage was created in CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology into the Classroom, under the advisement of Jeff Goodman. The webpage is an example of a class webpage for my future classroom. It includes a variety of sources for those who view it, including a homework section, the impact of media on our lives, a photo gallery, and links to a variety of useful websites.

Impact:

This assignment is a great start to my own classroom webpage for my future classroom. The homework page will be very useful for students and parents. I will include each nights homework assignments on the page incase a student forgets his or her assignments. It also allows parents to see the homework their children have each night. I have a class calendar with important dates and a class photo gallery. The links provide a multitude of websites for children to look at. They are centered around learning, but fun and interesting at the same time. There are also links that parents and other teachers will find useful.

Alignment:

The following NETS-T Standards are met with the class webpage assignment:

Standard II. E- Plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.

This standard is met by creating a homework page. Students are able to manage everything they have to do for class through this page. It also allows me to provide links and other tools that will aid students with their homework. This is just one of the many tools to help manage student learning in an environment surrounded by technology.

Standard II. C- Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.

This standard is met through the different links on the webpage. The pages for media in our lives, parents, teachers, and students all provide links for resources that I have found and evaluated. Along with all of the links, I provided a short synopsis of different ways the resource can be beneficial. By providing the links on various pages, I was able to arrange them by which group the resource is suitable for.

Standard V. A- Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

This standard is met with the parent page, which includes annotated links for parents. There are also links provided for other teachers on the teacher page. This helps me continue to develop as a professional. It also helps parents, other teachers, and myself continue learning about technology resources. These links will help ensure my ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

Standard VI. A- Model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.

My webpage includes release forms for parents in English and Spanish. Parents fill out the form and send them back saying whether or not they give permission to have pictures taken of their child. This helps protect the privacy of all students. This also allows me to legally be able to take pictures of students and add them to the class photo gallery.

Standard VI. C- Identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity.

I provided the release forms for my photo gallery in both English and Spanish. This allows all students in the class to be included because not all students will have parents that speak English. This shows that I am aware of using technology resources that affirm diversity in my classroom.

Standard IV. B- Use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.

The Media Literacy page, Media In Our Lives, meets this standard. It shows that I can collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instruction and learning with technology resources. I conducted a survey in my classroom to determine the relationship between students and mass media. After the survey, I also researched this relationship. My survey and research focused on the quantity and quality of television children watch.

Standard II. B- Apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.

The Media Literacy page included annotated links to media literacy resources and journal articles. Students, parents, and teachers are able to learn more about the impact that media has on children and ways to properly use media. This page also includes way to incorporate technology to a learning environment and learning experiences.

Standard V. B- Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.

After my survey and research on students and media and technology, especially television, I reflected on my results. This helps me better understand the ways students use the media and how it impacts their learning. It also gives me an idea as to ways they would enjoy incorporating media and technology into lesson plans. I can also continue to reflect and evaluate the use of technology by using the webpage with children and updating my photo gallery.
