Context: This Science Demonstration was created for GS 4401, Science and Science Teaching in Elementary School in fall 2007. It was created under the advisement of Dr. Goodman. The purpose of this demonstration was to present scientific information to a group of after school students in a creative, attention grabbing manner.
Impact: This demonstration was created to show students that science is fun. It was used communicate to students that science is in everything and can be easily and creatively explained. This specific demonstrate described Air Pressure (S 2.02) and how it can be observe on everyday objects.
Alignment:
Standard 3: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in science.
Indicator 3: This indicator was met by demonstrating the effects of air pressure on objects and in association with water.
Standard 15: Elementary teachers encourage underrepresented groups to engage in the schooling process, especially math and science.
Indicator 1: This standard was met by working with a diverse after-school program and communicating scientific information is a creative way that they would enjoy.
