Video Rationale
Context: This assignment was created for CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching, Spring 2007. It was created under the advisement of Mary Rogers. This production was completed with the help of Tyson Pentacost, Nancy Coxe, and Shelly Cabe.
This activity was designed to retell a children's book with the use of video. For this project many different types of technology were used. A Macintosh computer, Microsoft Word, a digital video camera, iMovie, iDVD, DVD-R and Quicktime were all forms of technology that were used.
Impact: This assignment was created to show that literature can be converted with the use of technology to make it more intriguing for students. Litertuare does not have to be boring. Students got the chance to work together to create a production that they can be proud of. The students were able to learn how to take a story and turn it into a movie. They got to learn about cameras, camera angles, editing, script writing, and team work. This project integrated many subject areas such as, literature, theatre, and technology.
Alignment:
NC DPI Standard 6, Indicator 1- Teachers understand that there are many different concepts involved in each lesson. In this assignment the standard was meet by including different camera angles and effects in the write-up of the script.
NETS-T I-B- Teachers understand that technology constantly changes over time and to keep up with the changes. This assignment incorporated technology by using an Mac computer with its growing innovations. It used the new program iMovie.
NETS-T II-D- Many classrooms are not equipped with resources for all students so in this lesson it was important to show that all students had a role. Students worked together in groups to create the project. They had share and be a team. A log was created to show what each student did. This ensured that there was team work and everyone had a chance to use the different types of technology.
NETS-T VI-B- The students had the power to use technology the way the wanted to create a final product. In this project each person included their own opinion to create a project that was attractive them. That choose a story they liked and added effects that were attractive to them.
Day 1: Tyson and Charlene meet to pick out the book “Where the Wild Things Are.”
Day 2: Nancy, Charlene, and Shelly created the construction paper scenes of Max’s bedroom and the boat. (Filmed by Nancy)
Day 3: All of us participated in class time editing of the bedroom and boat scenes.
Day 4: Nancy, Charlene, and Tyson met in Tyson’s room and filmed Max’s mischief scenes. (Filmed by Nancy)
Day 5: Class time editing with all of us.
Day 6: All of us met at Horn of the West Park to film the “Wild Rumpus” scene. (Filmed by Shelly)
Day 7: Nancy, Charlene and Tyson met and filmed the Island scenes. (Filmed by Nancy and with the use of a Tripod)
Day 8: All edited the reminder of the production.
Day 9: Nancy, Charlene and Tyson met and wrote up the video/audio log and did some final editing.
