Newsletter Rationale

Context:  This Newsletter was created for CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching, in Spring 2007.  It was created with instructions from Professor Mary Rogers.

The Newsletter was made to allow the students in the classroom to learn more about me.  The Newsletter helps me to connect with my students.  The pictures were uploaded on the computer with the use of a scanner.  I used the internet to find the comic strip and pictures of the book.  I used the copy and paste function to insert the pictures into Microsoft Publisher.  Then Microsoft Publisher was used to crop and edit the pictures.    

Impact:  By allowing each student to have a copy of this Newsletter, they can see what things they have in common with me.  It is also a way for the students to feel free do share their likes and dislikes.  The Newsletter helps the students and their family understand who I am and what I am doing in the classroom.  Since I opened up to them, they might open up to me.

Alignment:

• Standard 16: Elementary teachers develop as leaders in their schools and communities by staying informed about educational policy issues and supporting professional development. Elementary teachers participate in co-curricular activities, provide leadership in student and curriculum involvement, and connect these activities to the development of citizenship ideals in their students.

  Indicator 3: Elementary Teachers stay involved in extra co-curricular activities and use them to comment with their students.  In the Newsletter, students get a better understanding of the activities that the intern does.  Also, it allows room for the students to respond how they get involved in school.

• NETS-T V-C  - Technology is use to make activities easier.  The Newsletter makes it a lot easier to tell the students about myself instead of just saying the things mention.  The students have a visual aid to relate back to.  With the Newsletter they can easily find out why I am there, what my favorite food is and my favorite books.  The Newsletter is a great visual aid.

• NETS-T V-D - Technology is use to communicate with a large population.  Since the Newsletter will be passed out to every student, who will then take it home to their parents; a large community will be reached.  The students and their parents can easily access information about me.  The information gives them an email address to access me at anytime.  Also, since some helpful web sites are listed parents might be able to use these to progress their child's learning.
