Context:
I taught this lesson over two days, in Mrs. Tallent’s second grade class at Northbrook elementary school during my student teaching. To create this lesson I first found an appropriate book and then discussed with Mrs. Tallent the best way to teach equality to the students.
Impact:
This lesson has impacted my students by having them think about what it feels like to be treated differently just because of their cloths, hair, skin, and looks. The lesson has met second grade social studies NCSCOS 3.01 Compare similarities and differences between oneself and others. Students had to draw a picture of a friend who was different from them. Then they were to write one thing that made them different and threes things that they had in common.
Alignment:
I have met standard 11 indicator 2 by discussing how we should treat other people and how it feels to be treated unequally.
I have met standard 14 indicator 2 by discussing with students about being treated equally.
I have met standard 14 indicator 3 by discussing with students what to do if they are ever put in a situation where they are being treated unequally.
