NC- North Carolina DPI Elementary Education Specialty Area Standards
Standard: Standard 3: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in science.
Indicator: Indicator 2: Teachers have knowledge of basic physical science concepts including:
Detail: Systems of measurements, analysis, and interpretation of data
Detail: Sources, forms, conservation of energy

Context:

I created this car and report with Lori Dillard as a requirement for my CI3543 class.  First, we came up with a plan on how to create our car.  Next we constructed our car and prepared to test it.  Before we tested it we measured and recorded the ramp height.  We tested each height three times and recorded the results.  The we put the result into a spread sheet to analyze the data.  Then we created a report explained our process and findings.

Impact:

This activity will impact my future students because I now have a  deep understanding of conservation of energy and effective ways to collect and organize data.  I will confidently be able to pass this information on to my students.

Alignment:

I have met standard 3 indicator 2 because through creating and testing the car I gained a basic knowledge of physical science concepts including, systems of measurement, information of data, analysis of data, source forms and conservation of energy.  This knowledge can be seen in my report attached.
