VIDEO RATIONALE:
Context: On this video project, I worked alongside Nikki Gardner, Amy Reynolds, and Danielle Gilbert. We did a "spoof" on the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. We rented a video camera from the media lab on the campus of Appalachian State. We used the following computer programs: iMovie, Quicktime, and Sony DVD burner.
Impact: This video project will be a good tool for the future as I get into teaching. The importance of furthering a lesson by using technology is a beneficial skill. Not only does it create a better understanding of the material being studied, but it also allows for students to be creative and to think outside of the box. The iMovie program was easy to use and has numerous possibilities for editing. This project could be used in almost every subject taught. Besides literature you could include this activity in science, social studies, math, health, music, art, etc...
Alignment:
NETS-T I-B: Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
By creating this video, I was able to learn new skills using technology I was unfamiliar with. Learning how to edit the movie was a useful tool that will better my ability to use videos as a classroom project in the future. The iMovie program is a user- friendly program that allowed for all of the group members to easily contribute to the overall project. The video camera added to the experience as I had only been used to simple camera-phones.
NETS-T II-D: Plan for management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
By managing our time so we as a group could each participate and complete the project on time, we were able to use the resources given and create a final project of value. Each group member was given equal time both in front of and behind the camera. By discussing our project in a well-thought-out fashion we were able to complete our project in a short period of time. The final product reflects how we worked as a team.
NETS-T VI-B: Apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
Though we did not use anyone outside of the group in our project, we were aware of the necessities of a release form. The hearing impaired could use this project idea by adding sub-titles at the bottom of the screen. This would also be a good tool for ESL students as they could recognize stories on video as they follow along with an actual text.
