Program Field Experience Requirements

Fingerprinting/Background Check/Tuberculosis (TB) Test

All School Counseling candidates are required to receive fingerprinting and background checks before participating in any field work (practicum or internship) in the schools. School Counseling candidates may complete the process before the Practicum semester. For Allegany County placements, you must obtain a form from Denise Arnold in the Office of Clinical and Field Placement Office for all fingerprinting services. Appointments must be made if you choose the Campus Police for fingerprinting.  This requirement ensures that your results will be shared directly with the Education Department. If you choose an alternative fingerprinting location, a copy of your criminal background check as well as fingerprinting must be filed with Jennifer Delaney, Framptom 217.

If your placement is in another county, you will need to contact the County Office or if in Pennsylvania, the District Office and follow their process to complete a criminal background check and fingerprintinf process. All information must be shared or filed with the Eduction Department prior to your field experience.

A Tuberculosis Test must be administered within the year prior to your Practicum field placement. The proof of negative TB results must be submitted along with evidence of fingerprinting to Jennifer Delaney, Framptom 217, and as required by the county school system where field placements are scheduled.

Your start day may be delayed if both fingerprints/criminal background check and TB Test results are not on file.
