Student Learning Outcomes

Goal 1: Students will demonstrate an ability to read, understand, and analyze texts written in Spanish.

1.A: Students will comprehend simple texts written in Spanish and about the Spanish culture.

1.B: Students will demonstrate comprehension of sources (primary & secondary) in Spanish.

1.C: Students will pose new ways to think of the material. 

Goal 2: Students will write accurately, convincingly, and in a logical, organized fashion in Spanish.

2.A: Students will craft a thesis that is identifiable, plausible, novel, sophisticated, insightful, and crystal-clear.

2.B: Students will structure written essays in ways that are evident, understandable, and appropriate for thesis.

2.C: Students will use transitions from point to point with paragraphs that support solid topic sentences.

2.D: Students will produce written work in Spanish containing few significant grammatical errors.

2.E: Students will produce written work in Spanish with a varied vocabulary indicate of a high level of linguistic sophistication.

Goal 3: Students will use Spanish to communicate. 

3.A: Students will communicate effectively in Spanish in a variety of speaking situations

3.B: Students will demonstrate comprehension of the Spanish language in a variety of listening situations. 

Goal 4: Students will demonstrate knowledge of cultural phenomena in countries where Spanish is spoken.

4.A: Students will respond correctly to cultural information prompts. 

Goal 5: Students will demonstrate knowledge of literature, history, and contemporary culture of the Spanish-speaking world. 

5.A: Students will recognize cultural beliefs, practices, and products in countries where Spanish is spoken.

5.B: Students will demonstrate an ability to analyze Spanish culture in meaningful ways.
